Heelys "The Shoes that Roll"

Heelys... Every kids dream shoe… Providing the ability to walk, run and roll simply by shifting their weight to their heels.

Crazy right! Now a days kids don’t even have to walk anymore… and I thought games like Nintendo and Xbox were the reason our kids were getting lazy… lol…

Don’t mind me… I’m just jealous that these shoes weren’t invented earlier. I’d love to have had the joy of rolling through the mall or hanging on to the back of my moms’ grocery cart while she pulled me through Piggly Wiggly… Invented by Roger Adams in 2000.

But the Idea for the shoe came about in 1998 when he was vacationing in Huntington Beach. The Idea came to him while watching kids skate up and down the streets…

He created his first pair of Heelys from a cut up pair of Nike running shoes that he cut out the heels, ran a rod through the heels, and used the wheeled bearings from a skateboard.

Who would have ever believed that a simple contraption would become popular trend for middle and high schools in such short amount of time.

Today, it’s normal to find kids “Heeling’ through malls, playgrounds and sidewalks. Even celebrities like Shaq and Usher have been seen sporting them.

Usher uses them in this video...
